Food Tech
This week in food tech, room 21B were making some Scroll Scones. They were delicious and if you want the recipe we went by, then look below:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons of butter (30g)
- 2/3 cup of milk
- 4 teaspoons of baking powder
Toppings: (optional - choose which ones you want, or add any different ones for taste)
- 1/2 cup grated cheese
- 2 tablespoons crushed pineapple - drained
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/4 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
- 1 tablespoon small onion finely chopped
Method for toppings:
- Choose some toppings of your choice (see list above)
- Mix them all together and put aside so you can start on your dough.
Method for scone dough:
- Sift all of the dry ingredients into a bowl and combine.
- Rub the butter into dry ingredients with fingertips till it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Add the milk and stir into the mixture.
- Knead the dough about five times on a lightly floured board so the dough doesn't stick.
- Roll the dough out into a big rectangle about 1-2 cm thick.
Putting it all together:
- Get your topping and smear it all over the top side of the dough. Make sure that all of the dough is covered carefully and there are no bits that are not covered.
- Next, roll the sheet of dough up tightly.
- Cut up the roll into pieces (size of your choice).
- Then, spread them out evenly on an oven tray that is covered with baking paper (so that they don't stick).
- Now place the tray into the oven and put the timer on for approximately 10 minutes or until golden.
- Finally, take your scroll scones out of the oven when they are done and enjoy!
